Real life paint from tubes?!?

While I've been painting the studies shown in my previous post I was looking at artists who all share one thing in common. They've studied traditional oil painting. One thing that always grabs my attention is being able to see the brush strokes in a painting (This applies for digital and traditional). I think it helps make the painting feel more alive and energetic and keeps the viewer engaged for longer. I want to become really good in being able to form an object/landscape clearly in as few brush strokes as possible helping to keep a loose painterly feeling to my work.
The studies I've been doing over the last week have really helped with this as it's teaching me to think about the marks I'm putting down and the colours I'm using. However I want to take it a step further by also starting to paint oil painting studies on paper as well and my digital paintings. I figured I might be able to better understand brush efficiency and creating a painterly feeling in my digital art if I actually do some traditional paintings on paper.

I may also be able to create my own digital brushes though scanning in brush marks that I create on paper to use in my work. This doesn't really link into what I'm doing that much but creating my own brushes has been something I've wanted to do for a while.

But yeah just a short blog post to say I'm going to be giving oil painting a go in the next week once I've acquired all the equipment. Hopefully this experimenter pays off.
