Last project update

After my last post where I mentioned being inspired to show a different side to the natives I created this image. The idea behind it is that there's a tension between the Natives and the colonists and although both sides are armed no action is taken. This is tied to the theoretical plot of the story I had in mind where part way through the game there's a pivotal moment that changes things. This scene could be taking right after that scene, which could explain why both sides have chosen to be peaceful in this situation instead of being violent.
I wanted the colours to match the story behind this painting so went with a mixture of warm tones and cold tones to show a glimpse of hope or peace through the troubles and fighting of the two sides.

I wanted to create a painting that show the destruction of the colonists against the Natives and to also contrast a previous painting of a gold panning camp that had been destroyed. I wanted to bring back similar tones from the previous peace but make the colder tones over power the warm ones.

I wanted my finishing painting to capture the wildness of this era. Although lawlessness is something seen in films and games that focus on this time there's a good reason. It was the way things were then with a lack of authority and a crowded amount of people moving over into small settlements.
