Another Project idea

At the start of this semester I had a few Ideas that I was considering focusing on that all ended up being scrapped for what I'm currently working on. This is one of the ideas that I had that I as considering and even ended up drawing some rough concepts for before ultimately deciding against it.
I wanted to create designs and environments that would let me play with scale and dramatic perspective so the idea of a Monster hunting game where you play as a small mouse seemed like it would tick those boxes. I ended up not going with this idea ultimately as it seemed to similar to two new game releases this year.
When starting these test deigns I wanted to test different styles to see what would best fit the world I had in mind. I started with the face sheet playing with proportions and style. I quickly found that I wasn't liking the cartoon style for what I had in mind. It seemed cheap. However I knew I needed the mice to look stylised in some way. I settled on a sketch that was closer to the actual anatomy of a mouse and wasn't exaggerated too much in comparison to the others.

I then focused on body types and how a mouse would look if it was stood up. I again tried a few different styles and even tried some cartoon styles just to see and check if they worked better this way. Again I didn't like that style so focused on the more realistic looking ones and found one I thought would work well with what I had planned.

I wanted to see what the mouse would look like when it wears clothing as I had planned for customization to be a big part of the game. I took the mouse and duplicated it across the canvas and started painting over. When I was doing this I was looking at references like The Borrowers to gain inspiration and to see how they managed to solve design problems.

I had a mixture of designs that would look like the character had re purposed ordinary materials to use such as matches, scissors and buttons and other designs where ordinary objects were shrunk down to fit the scale. I felt the characters that re purposed ordinary objects worked better as I could see them having more of a charm in game apposed to the other designs where the swords were just shrunken.

However in the end this project was scrapped for reasons I've mentioned above plus a lack of excitement for this project after creating these designs. Possibly at some point I might paint an environment based on this idea but it will only be a piece to do just for fun
