Two latest pieces towards the shinto project. I created this both at the same time using the split canvas method. This time I started and worked into the top image first and then duplicated the painting and zoomed in so that I could focus on a more zoomed in version with a few differences down below.
The idea in this game is that when close to the kami spirits and their world the environment around that area will be more magical and colourful. As I was painting Torii gates in this painting I wanted the area to fit this theme. Torii gates are most commonly found at the entrance to shrines and they symbolise the transition between our world and the sacred.
