Forest witch

I was tempted to jump back into environments after having the idea of witches roaming the woods and enchanting creatures and luring people into the forest. However I stopped myself rushing into it and made sure to properly concept the character first so I wouldn't end up with a dull design.
Although I have a painterly technique that I've been using and feel comfortable with I felt like I wanted to keep learning and try another technique. Part of the reason I use the split canvas technique is to make the work I'm doing fun. This is due to why I also like to try new techniques as it helps keep the work fun as well as possibly leading my work in a new direction.

I used a technique taught by Nivanh Chanthara in his Patreon tutorials. However I only watched half of the tutorial so that I could fill in the gaps with my pre existing technique so that my painting style wouldn't vanish. This was a conscious decision as in the past when following someone elses technique down to a T it had left my work flat. Doing it this way and letting myself morph the techniques together helped to keep the concept interesting.

In terms of the concept idea I wanted to create a half character half creature that blurs the line between living a dead. The evil is meant to be feeding and corrupting the body. The advancement of humans and destruction of nature has angered the forest witch and started to eat away.

I used the split canvas technique here by working on the characters at the same time like I would If they were separate environments. Taking the same thought process of helping each character influence the other by experimenting with details and colours from one to the other. I wanted these to variants to look fairly similar so the player would know they're the same type of enemy but have the main difference being the staff that's being carried. Working on them at the same time allowed me to control this process and not let my main intention become lost in the painting.
