Just trying something different
Between coming up with the second idea for a project for this semester I started painting things I wouldn't normally do as a fun way of exploring ideas and giving my head a rest from what I'd previously been doing. I painted this bug kid after watching an Anthony Jones tutorial about brush confidence and building up an image quick. I silhouetted the character with one brush stroke not taking my pen from the screen using the pen pressure to put in some darker and lighter areas and then quickly built up the shape with a round brush with slight spacing to give fake detail and continued to do this until I was happy with the outcome. I then turned the image into colour with layer settings and added a few extra hints of detail
The second piece I did was a portrait piece of Dva from overwatch. The new cosmetic skin had just released and I decided to pander to the fan base and see what would happen if I did a piece of fan art. I've been told in the past that only fan art gets noticed and wanted to see if that was true or not. It turns out that it didn't really out preform any of my other work I posted on social media and in a way I was glad as I wouldn't be tempted to do any more fan art. It wasn't as enjoyable to paint as my other work as I was having to copy the design. The only freedom I really had with it was the style I painted it in, so I went with something a bit different to what I normally see when others make fan art for this character. I wanted a traditional looking portrait style.
