Alley study (cool into warm tones)
At this point I had decided I would be taking up studies once again. After doing the previous study I suddenly felt enthusiastic to do more. I could feel myself learning and gaining inspiration once again. Giving myself a purpose of learning from studies I felt gave myself more motivation to paint and helped me to get out of the artist block stage I had been going through as a result of a lack of motivation due to not having a set topic to stick to.
I wanted to make sure I wasn't just copying the studies and not learning so for this one I gave myself the goal of making the overall tones warmer as I painted. I wanted to show knowledge of tones and colours and use this as an exercise to experiment and help fill in more gaps of my knowledge on the subject. As seen from the painted study in comparison to the original the tones are a lot warmer.
In order to achieve this I made sure to keep in mind that the the surfaces including the shadows should feel warmer. this meant the overall image should be brighter. This meant I had to not get carried away with my bright tones and remember to still make the shadows darker despite feeling warmer. This meant the image would still have contrast and not look flat. I decided to exaggerate the green plant in the middle to test how much I could get away with in terms of sharper and brighter colours.
Noticeably I changed the position of the cat. It looked odd looking directly of the page so I painted it further to the left just below the plant. I was aiming for the eye to be led from the plant down to the cat or vise versa. The position regardless is alot better composition wise than the original.
