Two canvas painting
I wanted to try out a new way of creating work in terms of time management and keeping work fun and holding my attention for longer. I got the idea of setting up my canvas in photoshop divided in two as seen above by feng zhu. During a Q and A session he was asked how he works and what he does to keep it interesting.
Previously before using this method of working I just took regular breaks with my work whenever my eye got tired or I'd feel like it was best to step away from the painting for five minuets so I could come back to it and spot mistakes. The problem with that is I wouldn't step away from the painting enough or when I did I'd become distracted and it would slow the whole process down. I knew that wouldn't be an efficient way of working in industry so I gave this method a try.
I found that using this method of work helped me produce work faster on average as I didn't need to take many breaks in order to spot mistakes as I would switch from one painting to another frequently and that helped me see what I needed to fix. It also kept the whole process fun all the way through to the end as switching between the paintings helped keep things fresh there aswell.
How I started this painting probably had an effect on the overall enjoyment of this painting. I started each painting with a mess on the canvas and started extracting shapes and forms until I could see something in the shapes to start building on top of. Having the loose way of working definitely made the work more enjoyable and I think the end result shows that aswell. I'll be using this way of working alot more from now for loose concepts and creating fresh ideas with environments.
