Flooded farm

For this piece I wanted to try another technique. I've seen other artists use photo bases as a way to start a painting and decided that this could be beneficial and interesting for me to try as it's different to what I normally do but still has the same effect of having something on the canvas to work from straight away instead of looking at a blank canvas.
I wanted to choose an image I could make a story from and add to in my own mind. I've found just thinking about the story behind the painting can really help me in terms of making the scene more believable and adding details. I often do this will all my paintings however despite doing it this time I feel it didn't help my image from still feeling flat.

With trying a new technique I didn't expect it to be perfect straight away so I'll label it as a learning experience. I can improve this piece by straying further from the original photo and adding in more of my own elements in order to make the composition more interesting. I did add on a fair bit to the existing image but I should remember next time to add where it counts and keep the rest loose in order to help the viewers eye not wonder and give them something more interesting to lock their focus on.
