Knight study and testing for a project idea
I wanted to keep painting studies after I learnt this semester that they're really helpful for keeping my style loose in my other work and they really help me to learn. I also find them useful for testing potential projects witch is what I was doing with this piece. I wanted to try a another project test as I was starting to feel unsure about the racer project. After discovering the Shinto project I noticed that my excitement for the project greatly outmatched the racer one. I started thinking up more ideas. I wanted a projects that would be different so that I could have practice painting a wider amount of subjects and establish a more rounded portfolio. I ended up looking at old work of mine. and found my first attempt at painting a knight.
I painted this nearly four years ago now I guess but it inspired me to take the concept of a time medley where knight had elements of our future tech but still produce it via anvil at the smithy so everything would still look like it belongs in that time period yet have a sense of future tech. I haven't had many projects that have me painting knights before and as seen by my attempt nearly four years ago i needed some practice. That encouraged me to produce a study of a knight and help myself to learn how armour works and how the lighting effects it also. I really like the idea of the project mixing time together and getting old and new to blend well together but wanted to test to see if it was a viable option before committing to it as a a project. After painting the study I feel confident in knowing that I have an understanding of how to paint armour and also how to do it maintaining the loose style. I feel that once I know how to paint something in this style it normally means I have a better understanding on what's need to paint it as the painting style is all about using a limited amount of simple and precise strokes to form an object. To do this effectively you need to know what you're stuff on the subject matter otherwise the stokes that are put down will be wrong and start looking muddied when painting over them again and again.
After the study I feel like this will be my second project alongside the Shinto one as I like the idea of finishing my uni experience with an old idea I painted just before entering. plus knight with guns.
