Work Board Inspiring new project idea
During one of Janes lecture classes we were re located to the graphics students room. Their walls were covered in their own work with sticky notes from other students and tutors helping each other with constructive criticisms and suggestions. I wanted to try and encourage the same sort of feedback and display in the games design studio so we could help each other improve. Sadly only four of us including myself have contributed so far. But on the bright side it's helped to develop a potential project to focus on next semester. It started out with a note suggesting I paint a Torii gate as the studies I'd put up gave of an asian culture inspired vibe. It wasn't something I'd noticed until it was pointed out but I decided to do some research into the Torii gate a roll with it. I asked my flatmate who's studying languages, Japanese being one of her electives and she was able to tell me some details and pointed me onto the path of researching Shintoism. Shintoism is kind of like Buddhism to put it very simply but it's also about respect for nature. Locations and certain great people can be represented by a kami spirit. They're godly like spirits but can be corrupted and upset if not respected or treated properly. The general idea for the game is that a boy and his dog are venturing to a sacred shrine (reason not know to start with) along the way the boy and the dog will discover different kami in need of help in different location. some will be puzzle solving and others will be through collecting or exploring the world to discover hidden secrets. I'll keep the puzzles and world closely linked to Shintoism so the main story will be about the boy and dog but through exploring and playing through the game the player will also discover what Shintoism is and what it means.
