Shop front study

I spent most of the time in this study thinking about how I could simplify the trees down and not have as much detail in the branches and leaves but still get that dramatic sense of contrast seen from the small details in the original.
I felt like I got the shapes right in this piece but I really wish I went bolder with the contrast as my painting seems a bit washed out in comparison to the original reference. It really could have used with a darker mid section of the trees that are next to the building. This would have helped the building and the tops of the trees stand out more. Just adding that in would have made the study more successful as I felt the simplified tree tops painted with a chalkier brush with a bit of tooth to it helped give a nice texture that hints a leaves and I managed to get the contrast between light and dark better on this part compared to the mid section.
