Geisha

I wanted to make sure my concepts this semester were varied considering that I set myself no limits in terms of a project idea to follow throughout. My last two painting were set in a desert type place both in a fantasy setting landscape.
So I had the feeling that I wanted to do something the total opposite of that. I then had the idea for this geisha piece inspired by what I'd been watching at the time. It turned into a fusion of kill bill meets the geisha from Ghost in the shell.

I haven't really had that much experience with painting interiors and the looser style of painting felt harder to create when painting an un familiar subject matter so I looked at the artist Sparth who creates more city and scifi pieces for some guidance on how to paint this particular subject. I ended up using alot of lasso tool and custom shapes in order to get the hard edges to help define the room. I managed to keep the loos style in some place such as the extra characters but I feel looking at it now I could have done back in and smudged some edges to help keep the focus on the characters and not the room around them.
