The focus of this study was to learn more about painting water and how objects and creatures are effected when in water. I also aimed to change the structure of this study slightly. It took me a while to find a reference image that I wanted to use. I know I wanted to find and image with a lot of shadows and reflections on the water surface but also wanted to make sure there were fish swimming at different depths and preferably something else submerged in water. SO when I found this image it ticked all the boxes however I wasn't happy with the stone path that cuts the image in half. I still decided to go with this image to learn from but knew I would be changing a few bits to make the composition and the image flow better.
over all I was happy with the outcome and learning from this image. I felt like I managed to paint the koi fish at different depths. I even added some lily pads with some being half submerged and then a stronger contrast of colour to indicate what part was still floating on the surface. I changed the path that cut through to crossing stones so that the eye wasn't cut off or led away from the pond too soon.
If I was to do this again I think I'd change the shadows however. They turned out too close to the looking black instead of a lighter blue tone that would have complimented the study better.
