Character designs for future concepts
One of my projects this semester will contain the same character and his dog through out alot of the images so before getting into environment paintings I wanted to create a character sheet that I could refer back to through the semester and to make sure that the character stay fairly consistent through out.
I created two test paintings last semester as a way to see if I would enjoy this project and could see ways to develop it. Those paintings showed the boy wearing a yellow raincoat. This was something I knew I wanted in the design as it will compliment a lot of the environment the game would take place. The game will be set in nature so there will naturally be a lot of greens and blues adding the yellow coat would make an analogous colour scheme often found in nature and is quite pleasing, serene and comfortable to the eye. This scheme works well with the type of game I imagine this to be as it's meant to be a relaxing journey game to play.
I'm playing with the idea of giving the character a backpack. The one with the red backpack stands out to me at the moment when looking at it on the sheet as it creates a triad colour scheme that when used help make the colours look vibrant and stand out. Pretty important for the main playable character. However with the addition to the red backpack it could throw off the previous analogous colour scheme. I'll see if it works with my next painting and make the final verdict then on the design. if it doesn't work I'll use the earth toned bag design or just not have a bag at all.
